The CASTEL Bubble Bath Journal
A quick guide to pouring the right amount — no measuring cups required. How much bubble bath you actually need depends on your tub, your water and how fluffy you like your foam.
Ask five people how much bubble bath they use and you will get five different answers — because the honest answer depends on three things: your tub size, how hard your water is, and how foam-obsessed you are. A deep soaker tub simply needs more product than a shallow apartment tub to reach the same mountain of foam.
That said, there are reliable guidelines that work for almost every bath. Treat them as a starting point, then adjust by feel.
For a standard-size tub, start with roughly two to three capfuls of bubble bath — or one long, steady "glug" from the bottle. Pour it directly under the running tap while the tub is filling, so the falling water whips the formula into foam. The stream of the faucet is what builds bubbles; pour it into still water and most of it sinks unnoticed.
If your tub is on the larger side, or your water runs hard, lean toward the higher end. Hard water makes foam-building harder, so slightly more product compensates.
The most reliable measure is what your bath looks like one-third of the way through filling. Bubbles should be building visibly, layering on top of each other as the water rises. If the surface looks mostly flat and watery, add another capful now — bubbles are much easier to build early than to rescue later.
On the flip side, if you have a thick, stable foam mountain, you have used enough. More product will not make bubbles noticeably better at that point — foam only grows until the water is saturated with the formula.
Thin, sparse bubbles that mostly vanish within ten minutes. A soapy film on the water instead of actual foam. A bath that smells lovely but looks disappointing. All three usually mean one thing: not enough product — or too gentle a pour under the tap.
Under-pouring is the most common bubble bath mistake, and it is easy to understand why. Small bottles make a generous pour feel expensive, so most people pour less than their bath actually needs.
If you want the deep, cloud-like foam you see in the movies, use more than feels reasonable — and help it along. Pour under the stream from the very start of the fill, then swirl or whisk the surface for thirty seconds halfway through. The extra agitation multiplies the bubbles dramatically.
Then keep the water warm rather than hot, and keep bath oils and soaps out of the tub — oils pop bubbles on contact and undo all your generous pouring.
Here is our honest opinion: the amount question is mostly a bottle-size problem. Standard bubble bath bottles are so small that using the right amount feels wasteful — so everyone under-pours and everyone gets fewer bubbles.
CASTEL was built to end that math. Our scented bubble baths come in oversized 2.5L bottles — roughly ten times a standard bottle — so a truly generous pour barely dents the bottle, and one jar covers 25+ luxurious baths.
Most bubble bath bottles are small, which makes generous pours feel wasteful. CASTEL takes a different approach: oversized 2.5L scented bubble baths designed for generous pours, rich fluffy bubbles and long, dreamy baths — the kind of bottle you never have to be stingy with.
